The Church’s Legacy of Slavery
Following a 2023 General Assembly report, the Church of Scotland committed to acknowledging our past sins around the transatlantic slave trade and the enduring impacts of racism and inequality. We seek to engage every Presbytery and congregation through prayer, dialogue, and shared learning, including reflections from an ecumenical pilgrimage to Jamaica. The Church has produced a short video explaning this journey of reflection and reconciliation.
As part of moving forward, there will be some open sessions for all members and attenders of the Church of Scotland, to discuss our response and how we can do better in the future. These sessions will take place online on the following dates, and you can register for them using this link.
- 22nd January 2025, 7pm - 9pm
- 5th February 2025, 1pm - 3pm
As we begin this New Year in the season of Epiphany, celebrating Christ’s universal mission, we hope this video inspires meaningful conversations and encourages participation in these vital discussions.
