This public meeting is being convened to discuss Scottish Government proposals to merge East Renfrewshire with neighbouring councils and is a chance to find out more about our local campaign to oppose these changes. I hope a strong turnout will show the Scottish Government the depth of local feeling on the issue.
The Scottish Government is in the early stages of planning to abolish East Renfrewshire Council and to instead merge the area with its neighbours. Doing so would put at risk local schools, the provision of local services, and the core identity of key neighbourhoods and communities.
The town hall meeting is open to all residents, community groups, local businesses and organisations. Attendees will get a first-hand update on the campaign, find out what the proposals could mean for their family, streets and communities, and put their questions directly to me as their MP, as well as hear from Councillors and community leaders and activists. Your views will help shape the campaign’s next steps.
