Bible Focus

This Sunday we light the third Advent candle, which traditionally represents joy. We also continue on our journey through the opening sentences of each Gospel story. This week we consider some of the most powerful and evocative words ever written, at the beginning of John’s Gospel. John is painting with bold brushstrokes on the biggest and most vibrant canvas imaginable. I’d encourage you to put aside a few moments this week to read through the opening for yourself and to reflect on this incredible piece of writing. In a world of so much darkness and despair, let’s take hope in this eternal truth: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it”.
